Isn't the Duratec the base engine, not the Ecoboost?
Correct, the Duratec is not the Ecoboost. Whether or not they both have the same water pump design, I don't know. Sounds like a nightmare to me.
Yup, the Duratec was a joint Prosche/Cosworth that was licensed/sold to
Ford and is the base NON-turbo (Ecoboost) engine
Yup, the Ecoboost has the water pump 'highly integrated' into the front
cover and is nestled between the banks (in the valley)...same as the
Duratec engine family
Remember...the designers at these large OEMs do NOT design for the mechanic
nor DIY'er. Just meet the management allowed budget, size, vehicle platforms
mandated and have whatever special instructions/tools passed on to
production and last just a bit past warranty period/mileage/etc
"Highly Integrated" is for 'them' and their production metrics. Faster,
single part...pre-assemblied somewhere else...even outsourced...and
the biggie most don't understand...*ONE* part to carry in the parts
department...instead of the dozens and dozens of small parts that they
took out to incorporate into a "Highly Integrated" assembly...
Plus, they do NOT care that, that "Highly Integrated" assembly costs hundreds
to thousands more...just more profit from their parts counter and NOT
available from 3rd party...Gotta go to the dealer...
Gone are the days where they actually design for us DIY'ers...and why
generally will NOT purchase first year 'major' design changes/innovations...
Hint as to why I dislike "highly integrated" anything for
automotive...IBC anyone...and why been saying waiting for this engine
family to show it's true colors after a few years on the road and
into the rebuilding cycles :R
