I just bought my first travel trailer so I'm still learning, obviously. When I make a reservation at a campground and they say their max trailer length is 25', is that for the trailer itself or for trailer and hitch?
Campgrounds and storage facilities normally count from the front tip of the tounge to the end of anything hanging off the back of the rear and round up to the next whole foot.
It is not unusual for a 26 foot trailer to measure 30 feet long.
However, many campgrounds are interested in the length that has to be on the pad, so with rear overhang, many longer trailers/motor homes will fit into a smaller space.
If it is a commercial campground and they say 25 feet - that tends to be entire total length.
If it is a government campground (county, state, national) a trailer which overhangs the back of the spot might be okay.
If it is an older national park campground - Yosemite often comes up - the total length is the limit. They put barriers to prevent rear overhang at some spots.
Another important measure is your combined total tow length - from the front tip of the truck bumper to the rear tip of the last thing on the back of your trailer.
I have a 34 foot trailer, it measures 35 ft 2 inches from the tip of the tounge to the end of the spare tire cover. I have a 21 ft 8 inch long truck. When hooked up, from my front truck bumper to the rear of the trailer spare tire is 57 ft 3 inches.
When I book a spot - I try to get a 60 ft long spot - otherwise I might have to park my truck in a remote parking location away from the trailer.
Some places, the spot isn't long enough, but is wide enough to let me fit the truck in.
If you are close to the limit - Call the campground and talk to them.
