Ease of removing Superhitch and extensions?

One of the advantages of a TC is the ability to be mobile and not have to tow a trailer or second vehicle.
When staying in 1 place for any length of time you have the ability to drop the camper and have the truck to get around.
When I had my Reese Titan and 4' extension, it was as simple as pulling the hitch pin and unplugging the elec plug and removing the extension.
With the Superhitch it seems much more involved with the 2 extensions and support chains.
How long does it take those with this hitch to drop everything so you can use the truck without the TC?
Can you slide both extensions out together or do they have to be "disassembled" and removed individually?
Thanks

My Supertruss is 36 inches. Without rushing I can have it off in 5 minutes. Takes a few minutes longer to put in.

You must have a beer while removing yours. :B
  • I typically leave my 28" SuperTruss attached and put on a receiver brake/tail light if I'm not towing. When I do tow, the stinger has a second set of mud flaps hanging on it and I do not install the light.
  • We got it down to a science. SWMBO and I together - 10 minutes to install - 5 minutes to remove

Although I only remove it 3, maybe 4 times a year as we leave the camper on the truck almost all year now. (just the way we do things. Not making judgements on you!)
  • Quick responses, thanks.
Sounds about the same as the Reese except for the chains.
My biggest concern was the double extensions if they needed to be disassembled.
Don't think it will be an issue.
  • Takes me about 15 minutes: unplug electric, loosen turnbuckles, drop chains from receiver, pull pin, remove hitch. Since I tow a boat and will need to launch/retrieve it I remove the draw bar and pin it in the receiver. Usually goes a little slower reinstalling as it takes a little jostling to get the pin hole aligned.

I often do exactly this, depending upon where I am and what I'm doing. If it's a quick errand I'll even leave the bike rack in the extension (folded up).
That said, the SuperTruss is simple to remove so if the camper is going to be off for more than a day, or if I will need to park in a space-constrained area I just pull off the bike rack and the extension..

  • It takes us about 15-20 minutes. We put a small block of wood between extensions, saves pinched fingers. It is a pain and that is why we never take camper off during camping season. I know we are missing out on ALL the benefits of a TC but I look at it as always having our house with us including bathroom, cooler, and fridge.
  • The assembled "truss" extension stays all together when removed. It is heavy but a one man job to remove; it helps to have a second person to line up the hitch and extension when putting it back in the Superhitch. A couple turns to loosen each turunbucKle, and the chains come off the Superhitch with the truss extension.

My order - loosen turnbuckles, chains off Superhitch, unplug extension wiring, pull hitch pins and retainers, wrap chain around extension and pull out. (Now, where to put it?) :)

Easy - 10 minutes max. As I mentioned, harder to replace single-handedly. Don't let it scare you - it is SOOOOOOO much more solid than a simple entension piece.
  • Your hitch should be under 30" with the set-up you have in your profile. I would leave it on when dropping the camper in my opinion. The longer hitches, 36" and above, I would remove. It take 5 minutes to loosen (2) turn buckles, pull (2) hitch pins, and pull out the 2 piece hitch assembly and place it in the truck bed.
