Easiest plumbing job I have ever done

I changed out a defective faucet today and it took all of twenty minutes and no tools required

1. Turned off the electric switch at the water heater
2. Shut off the water
3. Unscrewed and disconnected both the hot and cold pipe connectors-BY
HAND
4. Unscrewed the large hold down faucet nuts - BY HAND and removed the
old faucet unit
5. Installed the new unit and reversed numbers 4,3,2, and 1

Job done- no leaks and we are happy campers.

I wonder what a RV repair tech or plumber would have charged ?

  • Being a retired general contractor, I have a tub full of 100+ fittings. Every one except the one I need today :S

I have replaced kitchen faucet and bathroom faucet in the RV by hand, and both were real pains. I'm slow, but a worker at Home Depot told me about a tool specially designed for those hard-to-get-to nuts. I just replaced a faucet at home and it was much, much easier with that tool. It was available in the faucet department.

Yes, I have one at home. I believe it is called a "basin wrench"
It has a pair of spring loaded hinged jaws and a long rod handle. It works great on hard to remove nuts.
On this project they all came lose and went back on by hand.

I could do it all by feel and didn't even need a mirror, which I hate since I find my hand wants to go opposite of where it should go

Zero trips to the hardware store. I bought the new faucet at my local RV dealer

Most of my plumbing jobs involve many trips to get parts.
When I replaced my hot water tank with tankless a plumbing co owed me for some hauling. Talked the owner into parking a van in my drive for the week-end

Sounds like you might be over tightening slightly. Treat plumbing like youre torquing a spark plug.
  • Envious of your plumbing skill.....even the bucket that I use to wash vehicles with leaks, seriously.
    Every trap I've replaced leaks.

Glad you got it fixed in timely fashion.
