EAZ lift

I have difficulty using an EAZ lift weight distribution hitch to connect my travel trailer and truck. To help in connecting the torsion bars, the truck/trailer connection should be raised about 3" using the jack on the trailer. The problem is I have to raise the hitch 6 or more inches.
What am I doing wrong?
  • Lower tongue on ball just barely, not to get tongue jack off ground
    Latch ball
Raise tongue/ball by lowering tongue jack
    Connect WD bars
    Raise tongue jack

That method is easier with an electric tongue jack. Sometimes I can snap the WD bars by hand, sometimes not.
  • Guys - don't get hung up on the total distance he is raising without knowing how much he sags. If he is sagging a lot, that will affect the total distance. If he has a bunch of links taken up, or a a lot of head tilt, that affects the distance too.

To the OP - have you gone though the WDH setup thread that is stickied at the top of this forum? It will help you determine the optimum setup for your WDH, and minimize the amount of work you have to do for hooking and unhooking.

Also, it doesn't matter what type of WDH hitch you have, the problem you describe can happen with any brand of hitch.
  • Thanks for all your replies to my query. I tried all the suggestions and finally went for the last one... I bit the bullet and went to the RV dealer. I am now about $65 poorer and somewhat wiser.
After the tech tweaked my adjustments he told me that it was not abnormal to have to raise the truck that high to engage the bars.
I'll pay more attention to your answers the next time I ask a question. :)
