Whelp my 2011 XLT got me 10.5 with some hills going out to Riverhead ( 30 miles ). We'll see what I get when I go to Pa. in 2 wks. Didn't bother with the Tow/Haul mode. RPM's go up.......mileage goes down!God Bless.Phil

T/H mode isn't for mileage, it's for better performance and more importantly, longer trans life. Higher RPM's don't always equate to lower mileage. The loading of the engine is very important for fuel efficiency. Lower RPM's can mean heavy loading and poor mileage/shorter eng life.

Glad you like the TV but a 30 mile trip is meaningless. Drive from sun up to sun down burning several tanks of fuel and figure your mileage. The fuel usage in my signature is over tens of thousands of miles, not a trip around the block.Low RPM can mean a lugging engine which destroys a gas burner. I live in the Smokies so every tow is in the mountains leaving and coming home. I usually get + / - 9 mpg with my 08 2500 HD silverado, 360 hp 6spd trans, 4wd hooked to a 26SS Koala.....having said that unless your mpg is truly atrocious it doesn't matter and it is what it is....I figure being out enjoying the country is well worth the lower mpg when towing and so I don't sweat it. Enjoy the experience, not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to.

x2 - I get anywhere from low 10's to high 11's according to terrain and such. I also experimented with tow/haul on and off. Tow haul was worth an easy 1mpg.Your driving methods make a HUGE difference in your mpg. If you are a pedal to the medal keep up with the flow of traffic kind of guy then you will get worse than if you work the hills and such.I highly recommend tow haul with your ecoboost unless your load is very light.Keep your speeds under 65 (tires aren't rated for faster than that). Mine gets it's best mpg around 60 mph with my 3:55 gear set.

Here is something to consider. I left the cold climes of sub-zero Indiana and headed for not so cold Louisville. No trailer just my 2011 F-150 with 15,000 miles on it.

Leaving in sub-zero temps with a stout cross wind I got 16 mpg. South of Indy the winds died and the temp was about 10 above and I was getting 18 mpg. Coming home a week later at 40 degrees and no wind I was up to 21 mpg, same roads, same cruise control speed, just better weather.

I mentioned this to the Ford dealer mechanic and he said the computer is set to run it rich in the cold weather. I say about 3 mpg richer.;)

My point is there are many variables that effect gas mileage. My limited experience with my new trailer indicates about 10 mpg which seems to be the norm for a decently matched truck and trailer, regardless of truck or engine type.

Now, I am bracing for the day we are towing and catch a stout cross wind in cold weather, :E (hopefully while headed south.)

I reported the Ecoboost mileage with my old trailer earlier in this thread as ~12.5 mpgUS.

With the new trailer I've got 9.8 mpgUS from the B.C. interior to Ontario and down to Florida. As usual, the worst mileage was on the prairies against headwinds. That's about a 27% reduction in mileage relative to the old, but I'm expecting it to improve a bit as we drive around the flats of Florida.

The frontal area of the new trailer is 64 sqft, about 19% greater than the old's 54 sqft (and exceeding Ford's recommended max of 60 sqft).

The total rig weight with the new trailer has increased by 32%.

My max speed is around 62 mph (100km/h).

I have the 3:31's so I get better mileage but towing capacity is diminished a bit. Not much. I can still get Zoey ( Zinger 28bh..6500 lbs dry ) up hills pretty easily. Just came back from Tenn and she did great.

Now I just have to get it back from the body shop......sheesh!

I get an average of 9.5 towing including hills and flats from my 12 screw with 6.5 ft bed, 3.73 rear. Not as good as I thought it would be but the power is impressive. I guess worth the difference.

You REALLY want to use tow/haul mode, otherwise you are lugging your engine and killing that beautiful Eco-boost.
