Quite true. My first towing trip throu PA, I was foot to the floor, 4000 RPMs, and the trmp would really climb. Changed my tune, got a transmission tune, and the next time, foot to the floor, tansmission locked in 3rd at 2700RPMs,and the temp climbed, but didn't spike.
