Just test drove a 2014 Grand Cherokee with the 3.0 Ecodiesel and 8-speed tranny. Smooth, seamless (drama-free) shifts, quiet, and plenty of steady, torquey, passing power. Since the curb weight of the GC is within a few hundred lbs. of the Ram Ecodiesel, I would anticipate a similar driving experience (straight-line) in both.
The GC's 0-75 acceleration time seemed very similar to a 2014 Ram 2500 6.7 Cummins auto I also test drove.
In a word, I was impressed with this 3.0 Ecodiesel in the GC. For a lot of average folks the torquey, diesel driving experience and fuel economy alone will sell the Ecodiesel. Payload issues aside, the average truck buyer knows it's a "1/2 ton" truck and that's good enough for them. As long as it'll haul stuff to and from Home Depot or haul a Uhaul trailer they'll be good to go.
