I can certainly appreciate the notion of automation, but I prefer the idea of extending the existing opening (drain) to an more convenient location and adding a hand operated gate, letting gravity take over.
Adding another electrical device would be one more thing to keep an eye on and maintain to some degree. If voltage is not available (for whatever reason), does the solenoid have a manual override?
