If it was DC current, you would be correct, however it is AC current we are discussing.
An entire house with dual 100 amp main breakers is capable of running 10 amps total, not 200 amp.
50 amp is 12,000 watts. At 120 volts that is in aggregate 100 amps. Although you are correct in that you can not run a 120v device that needs more than 50 amps.
Home with a 100 amp breaker is 24,000 watts and can provide twice the power of 50 amp service. That includes 200 amps of 120v appliances.
