We bought our Host Mammoth with the fireplace option. Comes in really handy when on full hookups. We was in Las Vegas and Williams, AZ over the Christmas/New Years break, and left it turned on for 48hrs straight. Since it's built in, no worries about it tipping over.
I did put a thermocube and a 200 watt heater in the basement, just in case. The temps was dropping to the low 10's at night. Zero problems, and the mammoth with triple slides was nice and warm, with no breezes or major humidity build up. - jmckelvyExplorer

If freezing out, leaving the furnace on low to avoid freezing water system may not work if you are heating the camper with elec. heater. Furnace won't kick in and then the underbelly won't get any heat - if your heat system includes heating the water storage/pipes areas.
We use the low furnace setting for when we are in transit during freezing temps.
I can only go so long listening to the loud blower motor noise with the built-in furnace.
ALso we always plug-in our portable electric heaters to the camp ground pedestal 20AMP service using a drop cord. Better to use their electric verses my propane to run the furnace. I never shut down the furnace but set it to low setting as the built-in furnace does provide heat thru the underbelly area to keep the tanks warmed up some when it gets really cold.

My AF 990 has a fan which circulates warm air thru the basement whenever the furnace is on. I wanted to be able to power the fan when using the space heater in addition to having the furnace control it.
I installed a White-Rodgers digital thermostat which has a Fan switch. There is a third wire coming to the Tstat which controls the basement fan. When I removed the original Tstat I moved the "third" wire to a terminal on the Tstat which allows me to switch the basement fan on/off manually. It still comes on automatically whenever the main furnace kicks on.
This worked well at -18 degrees last November in Idaho. Nothing froze! - WheelholderExplorerWe use a small electric heater that has a t-stat built in. It keeps the truck camper nice and warm. When it is at the house and the temps are going below freezing, I set it on the snowflake setting and it keeps the camper around 35 degrees. I use a small light on an extension cord in the valve compartment at the house to keep them from freezing.

Roy Ken - bobndotExplorer III have a dog so I put it on my stove top out of the way. LASKO 5307 oscillating tower heater (Walmart) sweeping motion distributes heat into the cabover as well as the main cabin.
Once you use the furnace for initial heating, the electric units help with less cycles of the furnace. You may find it helpful to close the slide in zero temps . Electric heaters take longer to recover when entering/exiting the camper often. Try to keep it to a minimum. - chuckklr04Explorer33d out, and our little 1500 watt heater can't get it past 60. That normal? Thinking maybe sunlite forgot to add insulation! LOL!

I installed electric baseboard. They range in size (length) as compared to their wattage. I had enough space for a 1000 watts. Its out of way and stores itself.
Good idea! And it's SILENT! :)
That's in an AF, just forward of the step / storage bin below the dinette.
I have a portable heater, but sometimes it cooks me out. because it's either on or off, there's no temp setting. Another one I have does have an adjustment, so it cycles, but that crazy thing wakes me up.
If I have shorepower, I always use one of the electric space heaters I have, but both of them need replaced with one good one.- kerry4951ExplorerI installed electric baseboard. - tony_leeExplorerNeed to also consider where you can store it when not in use.
Some of the suggestions take up a lot of room or weigh too much.
