Electric tongue jack

I have wrecked the old electric tongue jack on our TT. My question is when I go to replace it, why should I go with a jack over the 3500# jack I have found on Amazon? http://www.amazon.com/ARKSEN%C2%A9-12-Volt-Electric-Trailer-Adjustable/dp/B017RO0LZK/ref=sr_1_24?ie=UTF8&qid=1460649559&sr=8-24&keywords=electric+tongue+jack I think my tongue wt is about 800#.

Then you should have included that qualification in your original post. "Cheap" can work just fine ... for a time. Your choice. No point in shooting the messenger just because you don't like the message. :R
  • I'd go for it. I learned a long time a go that high price doesn't mean high quality. Wouldn't surprise me if they came out of the same Chinese factory. They're both made in China and both get about the same reviews. Even have some of the same reported problems. Buy two and it's still cheaper.

I wouldn't even think about a manual jack.
  • I just want this fixed as cheaply as possible. I understand the problems with that attitude, but my budget decides most of these for me. I've been offered a manual crank from a friend that replaced his with a power jack. Might have to go that route.

Where did I say that cheap one you've linked to wouldn't work? :h Buy whatever you want, I merely pointed out this TJ you've linked to is an imitation of the real thing ... it's up to you whether that's acceptable or not. :R
  • My manual jack went out, so I looked at an electric. Then I thought, this is the last vestage of excersize I get since I bought the TT. For forty bucks, I replaced it with another manual jack.
  • No need to go bigger than 3500. Give the cheap jack a go and let us know.
I have a $100 Ram 3500 jack on my trailer that works fine.

Personally I don't think many do need anything more than a 3500 lb tongue jack. However, what I would warn you against is that "Arksen" which you've linked to which is an cheap Chinese knockoff of the original UltraFab 3502 which I guarantee you won't be buying for as little as $86.97. :R I almost fell into this trap myself, unforgivable especially because I previously owned an UltraFab tongue jack and knew they shouldn't be selling for this little. Well, they aren't - authentic UltraFab tongue jacks are much more ... I have one now sitting in my workshop waiting to go on my trailer in place of the LCI tongue jack that originally came with the trailer. There are plenty of tongue jack out there, just make sure you know what you're actually buying. ;)

Why won't this one work? It has decent reviews. Besides I'm of the opinion that the heavier duty/pricey ones' are made in China as well.
