Well...electrical storage IP is moving right along and accelerating...
Saline Batteries are already on line in European TeleCom systems. Still too big for automotive for now...but they can be drained down to ZERO and still be 100% once rejuvenated by adding saline...where as a Lith-Ion will be ruined if drained below a certain % (used to be around 40%, but they are getting better)
The biggie for Saline batteries is that they are much friendlier to produce and remanufacture
The latest from Asia Colleges is the invention of Aluminum/Ceramic hybrid material that releases hydrogen gas when H2O is introduced...but embryonic for now and questions abound. Use hydrogen as gas in a fuel-cell to produce electricity...or burn it in an ICE...but that would be best if liquefied...but the process to liquefy (compress) eats up the energy budget (efficiency is now low)
Solar cells are currently sold with about 18% efficiency. They do have higher efficiency cells, but their life span is down in the mud...they have to or the industry is selling 20 year life spans. There will be a new magic % number when whatever electrical storage medium matches a 20 year life span...that will then allow them to be integrated into automotive usage
I'm not a fan of totally AI autonomous vehicles or any kind of robots. Am with Elon Musk, Stephen Hawking and over a thousand other scientists that are against AI autonomous robotics...why do we want slaves...where dumb robots are just fine.
Plus...our TV's will most likely never have fully AI autonomous robots controlling/driving them, IMHO
