BenK, LEAF and Bolt use a permanent magnet motor. Inverter creates a three phase rotating magnetic field with the stator coils to make the motor turn. No brushes or commutators.
Although Tesla does use a coil to energize the rotor.
EV motor, inverter, charger (and most batteries)are liquid cooled but run at very low temperature compared to ICE. Small electric water pump to move the coolant.
A/C and power steering etc. are powered by separate electric motors. Note there is no power taken from the main drive motor. And we have all felt that load on an underpowered four cylinder or have been tempted to turn off the air climbing a hill.
12v accessory power is supplied with a DC/DC converter.
Also note there are no clutches in the transmission to shift or wear out in an EV. Just a gear reduction box about 7:1 or 8:1. Still has CV joints to the wheels.
