Wow. Just took a gander at cars.com. Looks like you can get a used 2017 Nissan Leaf S for around 9 grand without about 10 percent battery degradation. (100 miles of range or do). Used 2012’s are dirt cheap, around 4500 but they had smaller batteries and had heat issues. But then again, a new batterie is 5500 installed (plus tax). I’d still get the 2017. More options.
Doesn't a Leaf only have like 100 miles of range? I guess Texas leaf owners will need to take a bus if they want to go to the next town over or even across town since most Texas cities are spread out rather than on top of each other.
Yepir. For that era of leaf one can expect around 100 miles. New leafs are good for around 220 miles (ish) That’s why I mentioned commuter. Leafs are great little commuters but they are not right for everybody. But that doesn’t mean that they aren’t a great solution for some. Again, I don’t think it’s helpful to paint everything with one brush. Around here the vast majority of people don’t have commutes over 50 km, (30 miles ish). A vehicle with 170 km of range is super useful. We drove one for years. If one has a choice between a 30 year old 5000 dollar car and a 3 year old 9000 dollar car with super low maintenance and running costs a car like this would be a consideration. Latest safety features etc. Your not going to go on a ton of road trips with it but then again, you won’t in a 30 year old 5000 dollar car either.
Don’t buy a shovel if you need a rake. It sounds like even basic commutes are 100’s of miles per day and from what I can tell hurricanes are common. I spent some time in Texas during my military career and remember people talking about them. I didn’t realize everybody leaves the state when there is a hurricane though. :). I also don’t think that’s indicative of most of the world.
