I have the same WH. The red light next to the gas switch is to indicate that it tried to light, but failed. When that happens it will reset itself and try again to light. If I open a window near the WH I can hear the ignitor clicking as it tries to light, but then I hear a louder "clunk" when it fails to light and it goes into lockout. After 1 automatic reset it stays locked out. I have to manully turn the switch off wait 5 seconds and then turn it back on. My WH is at the back of the coach, it can take a couple of tries to get gas pressure back there. It helps if I light the stove burners and let them run for a minute or so. I did find a reference on the Suburban website saying it is ok to run both the electric and gas at the same time. I usually leave the electric on while at a CG on shore power. I turn on the gas when showering so the WH recovers faster and makes more hot water.
