What I do like about having and enclosed underbelly on our trailer is that if I end up driving on salted roads, it is much easier to rinse off the underbelly.
Rinsing off an open underbelly is no different than an enclosed underbelly - just stick a power washer under there and spray away. Regardless of whether the trailer has been towed over salted roads
every trailer frame will rust over time and it rusts not just from exposure to road salt but simply from moisture in the atmosphere, enclosed or not. With an open underbelly at least you can get under there to wire brush the frame and spray paint it periodically, with an enclosed underbelly you can only access part of the frame, the remainder will continue to rust unabated. :E
