People that live in counties in the US that meet EPA air quality parameters don't need smog checks. You only need one if your country is in non-compliance.
My 7.3 is at 175 k miles. Compared to buying an updated truck for $40k, upgrading a few things like the trans seems like a bargain and the smart money.
