The two engines the OP brings up have nearly identical peak HP but consider what happens when they are pulling a trailer up a hill at 60 mph:
Both trucks have similar gear ratios so at 60 mph they will be in 3rd gear and running at somewhere close to 3900 rpm.
The higher torque 6.8 liter will be revving a little higher than where its peak torque is achieved and will be likely making about 435 lb ft of torque ..... which equates to 323 HP.
The lower torque Chevy engine will be running slower than where its peak torque is achieved but will still likely be making 95% of its peak torque so say 360 lb ft of torque which equates to 267 HP.
So the Ford would be capable of pulling a heavier trailer up a hill at 60 mph than the Chevy would.
Anyone care? His Ford grenaded and he is now driving a 6.0 GM. It will pull his trailer fine and go up a hill 60mph no problem without sploding.
