I have used both methods...prefer the plug near the cab.
I have never had to drill holes in my bed for either?
We usually have a hitch rack in the rear or are towing something...crawling underneath and trying to plug in the TC can be...messy...at times.
The bed plug is much easier for us.
Eagle Cap has made many "enhancements" recently...not sure why this fall in that category.
