everyday truck ideas needed

Hi, soon my Prius will go to our son.... I am considering a pick up truck, but it will be my daily vehicle, running kids around etc.
We'd also use it to throw our bicycles in, and maybe in the future for towing...
Husband loves diesel....worth the extra $?
Currently we use our 7.3L Diesel Excursion to tow our 30' 2007 Jayco TT. Not sure the smaller trucks would tow this, but we have the Excursion and plan to get a smaller TT in a few years once the kids no longer come along...
I don't really like driving the Excursion, would there be a truck that's a bit smaller than this, or not really? That could possibly even tow the TT?
  • they said it will be at least 2 years until Cyber truck... only Elon has one now :) I'll check out the info... looks very futuristic :)

funnily enough we test drove a Tesla (my son wanted to see one) yesterday, and there was talk of the Cyber Truck lol....Not sure what pricing will really look like on the electrics though...the Tesla made us feel very car sick!

Heh heh. Yep. If I’m in the passengers seat it can be an interesting experience. Crazy acceleration and handling. Our daily driver is a Tesla model 3.

I think the cheapest Cybertruck starts at 49000 and it goes up to 69000 for the 500 mile version that is projected to go from zero to sixty in 3 seconds. You can see all the projected specs and prices on the website.

Depending on your timeline there will be 3 or 4 manufacturers coming out with electric half tons in the next couple years. Depending on the trailer and how far you haul it might be something to consider.

    Cheers
  • Ha yes, the Excursion is 2003 but going strong with 375k on it...! So... we typically have to go over a big hill to get anywhere more than 20 mins away...We are in CA so lots of camping in the mountains to be done.. I read the new 1500 Diesel Ram has good towing power, double the gas version, I don't have to buy new though, but not totally against it (never have)... It's not that we have to use it to tow... but probably will eventually. but I need something for daily town/highway driving..
  • Diesel depends in large amount by where you drive, in the flatlands you may get by with a Ford or RAM gas engine pickup with max tow package. You would need to look at the weight of that trailer to know for sure. In mountains you really want a diesel to haul the trailer up those grades. You need to consider where you may going camping not just where you live.

That 7.3L Exclusion is rather elderly I suspect. You will find diesel trucks made after 2012 are a tremendous improvement and those after 2015 even more so.
  • Your truck not only “tows,” it carries. What is the weight of the Jayco loaded and wet? From that we can estimate the Jayco’s tongue weight. What and who do you carry in the truck?
