It seems your pic of what you think is an EZ-lube seal is not the actual dual lipped EZ-lube type seal, but what you showed is a single lipped bearing seal. Below is a pic of the dual lipped EZ-lube type seal made by Dexter:

Notice the two ridges on the lower left (lips) each that form a sealing surface on the axle shaft.
