It's rather odd that the engineers are way off base with the 1/2 ton ratings. But those same engineers that rate the 3/4 & 1 tons, got it right. :S
Just like I would not like towing a long TT with a 1/2 ton, I would not want to pull a 40'+ 25,000# 5er with a 350/3500!
It is not just engineers you also have pressure from sales and marketing! Those two groups are always pushing engineering to up ALL models tow ratings!
