In just about all aspects, a properly equipped F150 will out tow just about any 3/4 ton from 10 years ago. The handling, stability, frame strength, engineering complexity, and the suite of safety technologies is so far ahead of trucks 15 years ago.
You might at well say 3 years ago, as the 12 year old Dodge frame was used until the 2012 model year...a 2004 Dodge 2500 has a max tow rating of 13,600, which modern 1/2 tons do that? The 3500 SRW version can tow up to 16,350 with only 1 different part that's not even part of the tow rating. How is that even clost to just about all aspects?
The 15 year old Dodge had a max tow rating of 14,150, which 1/2 tons beat that?
You might want to check your data before making blanket comments.
Oh, and gotta love those P rated tires on a 1/2 ton.
1/2 ton numbers are inflated for marketing and 3/4 numbers are deflated for sales and marketing of 1 ton SRW trucks. Which one do you think is better suited for max towing of paper numbers?
Modern 1/2 tons are much better than they used to be, but they are not a replacement for a 3/4 ton (even a 10 or 15 year old one). Much like a 1 ton vs 1 ton C&C, the 1 ton pickup can out tow the heavier built C&C, but which one do you think does better in stability, safety, and longevity?
