I didn't think the 1/2 ton eco boost with the 6 lug wheels had the semi floaters. I'll take your word for it as I don't know a lot about the options for Fords. I drive a Dodge ram diesel.
Light duty axles are semi-float, and heady duty are full-float. Those are the two options for live axles.
Before any zealot pops in, there are a couple exceptions to this statement! As a whole it is correct, but Ram had a 1500 with 2500 running gear several yeas ago. Ford had a light duty 2500 with 6 lug semi floaters a while back. I also believe that GM had a HD 1500 that had full floaters.
Semi floater; single bearing supporting the drive axle, which also turns the wheel.
Full floater; two bearings that are supported by the axle housing, the drive axle only job is to turn the wheel.
I should have been more clear, I meant light duty axle and not the axle on a light duty pickup.
Yes Dodge did have a 1500 Mega Cab that was a 2500 with 1500 badging, so thus a full floater.
The 14 bolt semi-float GM axle was found on 1500's, 6 lug LD 2500's and 8 lug HD 2500's... so not all HD 2500's have full floaters, but all HD diesel and large engine option did.
I have not seen a GM 1500HD with a full floater, all the ones I have seen have the semi-float 14 bolt. It may exist, just saying I haven't seen one.
