My question: Of those half million sold, how many are boulevard cruiser/soccer game transporters/grocery getters, vs. work trucks? Am curious how folks that use their trucks to work and tow view their experiences.
Well, my initial response would be, "who cares?" Ford is out to sell vehicles, and has apparently designed one that half a million people have wanted to buy, regardless of their purposes for owing it.
For what it is worth, I use mine for all of the above. It has been to plenty of soccer games this spring. I stop at the grocery store all the time in it. I drive it to and from work, and sometimes just drive down the street because I like it so much. It does all of this very well, with lots more space than the car it replaced ('07 Subaru Outback), and only getting 2-3 mpg worse in the process.
But it tows really well, too -- while not equal to my '06 2500 Duramax, it is a lot closer to the diesel than it is to my other 1/2 tons. So far, it is quite ideal for the uses to which I put it; I'm like most 1/2 ton truck owners, I suspect, in this regard.
