I don't know if I can justify the payment. I'd like to stay a half ton, but I cannot get the box/cab configuration. So, I am now looking at what will work for me.
I know that Cummins recommended a more expensive 3500 with the HO CTD and Aisin, but the price difference between a 3/4 and 1 ton is negligible. I'd get a 1 ton if I could find one, but honestly there is minimal difference between most 3/4 and 1 ton trucks, other than an arbitrary class 2B distinction. In many states you can simply register a 3/4 ton for a higher weight than the 10,000 lbs Class 2B, you just have to pay for the higher weight.
But if buying, might as well get the 1 ton and not deal with speculation.
Ram 2500 vs 3500: 2500 has coil springs and sway bar and a 3500 has leaf springs and both share the same rear end. Power train the 2500 has less HP and Torque with the less than desirable 68RFE chrysler transmission.
Ford F250 vs F350: F350 has a larger spring pack than a F250. The F350 also has a larger read end. Having said that if you get a F250 with a trailer package option then it comes with the same spring pack and rear end as a F350. Power train the F250 and F350 share the same HP and Torque and the same 10 speed transmission.
