With a smorgasbord of information you can pick out want you want to believe. I think what TFLT did seemed reasonable and I have no reason to doubt their mpg findings. I haven’t looked at Fuely but it wouldn’t surprise me to find that the Ram owners most concerned with fuel mileage who are most apt to post on Fuely are also most apt to buy the lower power/higher compression ratio variant of the Cummins. Does the HO use a little more fuel?
And that is fine if you like to go on one-off "reasonable" tests that are done on different days in different conditions. However, I think it is much more statistically important to go by a larger sampling of data by multiple users over millions of miles based on real-world scenarios.
I post to Fually because I have their app which I use for tax reasons since I have to record my farm usage. The app automatically syncs to the website. In regards to users, there are far more Ford than Ram. Currently, the average for the 3500 for the past few years with the new HO CTD is 12.9 mpg while the past few years with the new PSD and 10-speed is 12.4 mpg. The average for the F350 for the past few years is 15.3 mpg(which is about 1 mpg more than the 6-speed) while the average for the new CTD 2500 for the past few years is 15.5 mpg(which is about identical to prior years).
