This is not about the refining process, but the engines that run off them. More and more manufacturers are moving away from gasoline engines. There will be a tipping point that will have all new ICE running diesel. So, before the manufacturers go completely electric, diesels will be the last hold out.

Just needs a little development which $0.50/gal gasoline would justify.

As others have pointed out, gasoline could be used in the production of other petroleum based products.

Of the thermodynamic cycles, gasoline engines (otto) are one of the most inefficient one out there. Gasoline won't be getting cheaper as we are running out of cheap oil to pull from the ground.

All depends on size of TC. Original owner of my 2500 01 Sport hauled a TC and boat across Steven Pass Hwy 2 in WA all the time. Truck seems fine to me.

We had late 60's or early 70's Ford cab forward 2000 gal tanker truck that did home heating out around town and delivered out in the woods to logging sites, logging road construction, rock crasher/gavel pits etc. It eat a Ford commercial 330 V-8 like every other year. It got trouble fuel mileage.

I have never in my life seen a gaser last 400-500k miles in a tow/haul vehicle duty cycle. I have seen several vehicles that generally run empty get that high, but not on anything meant to tow.

Also, I seriously doubt heavy trucking would use gas engines, especially for long-haul use. The cooling system needed to keep such a large gas engine revving at high RPMs for long periods of time would need to be massive making it even less aerodynamic than it already is. Maybe short trip heavy-medium duty trucks can get away with it with very short gears, but not heavy long haul trucks. There is a reason why a gas engine making the same horsepower, if not more, is rated to tow/haul much less than the diesel version even in the medium-duty truck market.

I do not think so, diesel has more BTUs. The amount of gas a semi would have to carry would cut into hauling capacity.

If they stopped producing gasoline today, within weeks we would run out of it. It is more or less a just in time product. Breaking the greed of oil rich countries, refiners and the distribution chain has to occur also.

No one is addressing the electrical generating capacity to switch all transportation over to it.

We need to flag down a few aliens and find out how they power their flying saucers. There is other intelligent life out there that has figured out things we have not yet accomplished! They have traveled to our planet from somewhere beyond what most people can comprehend and we have only traveled as far as our own moon. Our own government hides information about extra terrestrials from us. We have this shoot and ask question later thingy going on.

We as people on this planet remain tangled up with god beliefs and miss a picture much larger than our earth and what we call the human race.

And you mean hot mix asphalt contains significant amounts of petroleum products.
Cementitious concrete contains no petroleum products. Last I checked.
