F150 and a Camplite 6.8

I checked out the build video on the company website. It appears as they are adding some color to the interiors by using Adzel composite panels.
I laughed when the salesman says, "you can use a water hose to hose down the interior on those muddy hunting trips". My DW would think I went totally nuts it if she saw me try that.
I would imagine they would use a bit of propane to keep it warm during the winter. My experience with aluminum framework, it transfers cold. I can feel the cold studs while touching the camper walls in my heated camper.

You could haul it with your Ford just fine without any problems!... If I was you, I would install airbags... Don't know what you plan to tow when you have the TC loaded.

That camper was designed for 1/2 ton trucks!

I have a 2002 F-150 and haul a Sunlite hard-side TC and pull a pontoon boat when we go on a fishing/camping trip... I have airbags on my truck, because the truck will squat when I load the camper down with camping/fishing gear, and hook up the pontoon.

I put 60 to 80psi in the airbags to bring the truck back up to level.

Again, your truck will do just fine with that TC, because it was designed for 1/2 ton trucks... Call and ask them if you need to!.. That way you will get the right answers instead of someone telling you a F-150 won't haul it!

I have an aluminum trailer to haul 4wheelers or a side by side. less than 100 lbs tongue weight.

Yeah..... the F150 HD with the 8200 GVWR and the bigger 4800 RAWR with LT E tires and wheels would be a good choice.

The '00 to '06 1500HD GM with a 8600 and 6084 RAWR 6.0 4L80e with E tires and 8 lug wheels is another 1500 that can do the job.

And don't forget the 1500 Dodge Mega Cab Hemi with 8510 GVWR and 6000 RAWR 3.92 axle with E tires and wheels and another good choice for the 8.6 Camplite.

However the OPs F150 as many std duty 1/2 ton trucks doesn't have the capacity (Tires/wheels and rear suspension) to carry the 8.6 TCs 2000 lbs dry weight let alone a 2500 lb + loaded weight.

So it looks I have at least 4100lb axle

Don't know what a 1/2 ton weighs.

My trucks rear axle weight unloaded is 3000# with full tank of fuel, me, dog.

I've done some math for the OP on page #2 that should give him a idea how much overload the 8.6 TC will be for his particular F150 truck.

That 4100 lbs is Fords rating for the axle its self. Because of the P tires/wheels/rear springs Fords rate it at whatever is on the trucks door sticker RAWR which according to Fords Fleet body specs for his 7200 GVWR truck is a 3850 RAWR. That 3850 lbs includes OEM P tires/wheels and rear spring pack.
To get the full benefit of the 4150 lb axle rating he will have to upgrade those items or just run in a over load condition carrying the 8.6.

If the truck was the F150HD with the bigger 8200 GVWR with 4800 RAWR and load E tires and 7 lug wheels, the 8.6 would be a good choice.

Someone says their are no lighter TC out there. A quick google shows different with some in the low teens.
There are lighter hard sided TC out there for his particular F150 with those small axle ratings/P tires and wheels.

Nope, but you do need an appropriately sized truck and the TC manufacturers are all liars.

Lance also says my 815 will work on a 1/2 ton. As shown in my post on this very forum, it overloads my 1 ton SRW truck by 500 pounds. Not only would it, empty, overload any 1/2 ton truck, there probably wasn't a single 3/4 ton truck made in 2003 (when my camper was made), regardless of option package, that could handle the 815.

What you should conclude from this is that if the camper manufacturer says that a camper will work on a 1/2 ton, what they really mean is that if your 3/4 ton is a 2wd, regular cab, you're okay, and otherwise, you need a 1 ton truck to carry it.

I would think the 1625 weight of the 6.8 in my truck with air bags and e rated tires I should be able to haul no more than 2400 lb safely. ???
