F250 6.2L vs. 6.7L TD

I like diesel. Someday you just might want to upgrade to a 5th wheel and you'll be ready.

Same here once you get a diesel for towing you won't go back. Plus there isn't that much difference in price and you'll get the Ford warranty on the 2015

Compare the payload on both, 6.7 may actually be less.

The 6.2 gasser gets excellent reviews on this forum. As tbred mentioned the payload may be less on the diesel due to the increased weight.

If it were me and I could afford it, I'd go with the diesel. I love my RAM gasser, but one day it will be upgraded to a Cummins.

Bottom line is that both are good choices, do your homework and get the one you like best!

Either would be fine with the trailer you have. But if you like all the bells and whistles the new trucks have (I do), then you may not be happy with the "bare bones" 2015. But if you have any plans to move up to a larger trailer then the 6.7 may be the better choice.

I have a 2012 F350 6.7 King Ranch loaded that I love. I get the great diesel engine + the bells and whistles. But I am pulling a 35' 5er with frequent trips to the mountains so the extra power is appreciated.

But trying to decide on a 2012 F250 Lariat 6.2L nicely equipped (tow capacity 12K) for $37K or a 2015 F250 with a 6.7L TD bare bones SLT (Tow capacity 14K) for $42K. Both have about 20K miles on them.

I didn't know SLT was a Ford trim level, thought it was a Ram trim level.

You don't need the diesel to tow the current rig, but if you chose to step up to a 5er there is a catch 22 to the diesel.

More than enough power, but less payload, really bits in the 250/2500 models.

You could keep looking for a diesel with a bit better trim.

The Payload between the two you are looking at may not be that great, as the diesel is a lower trim level, and the gas is loaded.

That said, I am a diesel man myself, less than 300HP, at 280,000 miles and 3.55 gears still moves a 11,000# 5er very nicely, even up hills!!

On those two trucks with your current trailer, I would take the gasser.

Are you going to be happy with the strip-model diesel, just because of the engine? Or would you rather be more 'comfortable' with all the things that make life worth living (like power mirrors)?

Gas will work fine.

The diesel won't help if you go to a 5th wheel because it's in a 3/4ton. A 14k 5th wheel should have you moving up to a 1 ton possibly even dually, so you won't be able to use all that extra pulling power.

My one question is what is considered bare bones today? My first truck (just a small one) was bare bones: manual windows, manual steering, manual brakes, manual transmission and no radio. I suspect this one is a bit more tricked out but that's a personal choice how much you like the bells and whistles.

Then again, trucks are a dime a dozen. If you think you might move up to a bigger trailer, I would be looking at SRW 1 ton trucks.
