F250/350 Rear Squat

Jerry, How does the 250 ride with the heavy duty service suspension ? Is there a reason why you went with that instead of the Camper Package ?

The actual measured height (from ground to top of bed rails) of current tow vehicle and F250 are the same. The current tow vehicle only squats a 1" or so when hitched up. If new F250 squats 2-3", I will no longer be towing level as the rear of the truck will be 1-2" lower than current set up.

Pic below is what a truck should look like with a load on. Factory rear air keeps the truck at the proper towing level. Some would add bags to get the rear back to solo ride height. All that does is create a harsh ride.

Are those red RAM's in the background???? More and more RAM is taking over the service truck/ambulance sales. Chris

Yes they are and they are VERY HD!!! Rear air ride suspension.

I use it mostly for towing, on fairly smooth roads, where it rides like any other truck. Rough RR tracks, potholes, or rough bumpy roads encountered out hunting, it rides like a HD truck, which honestly, is quite rough.

I have 3 constant use leaf springs, and an overload 4th one on the bottom. I did not need the rear stabilizer bar of the Camper pkg, and I have heavier coils on the front too.

Be advised, if you get a new Ram with the factory air assist rear suspension you get negligible droop, or you can set the alternate height setting and get approximately an inch of droop. I've got a new 2015 3500 SRW Ram with the air bags, and a 5er with a dry weight well over 12k, GVWR of 15.5k I use the alternate setting when hooked up to get the trailer as level as possible and the truck is basically level. Ride loaded is much better than empty.

Standard F250 suspension, no camper package. Drops 1-5/8" to 1-3/4" with 1800 lb pin. Previous F150HD was 2.5".

Get the the F250 with the 18" wheels and camper package which will include the rear stabilizer and upper overload springs. It will easily handle 2000 lbs stock and 4000 lbs with just Torklift StableLoads.

I did not go thru all that fretting when my 2012 F250 was delivered.

I bagged it even before I hitched up to the 10K fifth wheel.

Done deal.

Our 2012 GMC 2500HD D/A combo squats one inch when I hook up the FW and raise the legs. No special springs, etc. When I then put the boat behind the FW, I think it lowers the weight on the hitch, but haven't checked it out to verify, since it's not a big deal. Our FW is a Jayco HY 26.5RLS that came from the factory with a little over 7,200 dry weight, if the tag can be believed, and has a gross weight, loaded of 9,950 max.
