rangerbait, I'll give you a 100% honest appraisal of the "negatives" of owning a dully (after owning 3 of them now). Size! Our previous house did not have a garage wide enough and long enough for the truck to fit in the garage. Our current house does. Size! There are no bank drive-through I've ever attempted unless their ATM is on an outside lane, which are very few. Size! You can't park them at airport parking garages. They are simply too big. You have to use the ground parking lots. Size! They are difficult to park in busy cities where you have to parallel park at a parking meter. Size! Many parking lots have lined spaces for smaller cars. When parking a dully, I usually have take 2 spaces, sometimes 4, because they are so short (mine have always been 8 foot long beds-crew cab). Size! Especially the long-bed crew cab's have a very wide turning radius. Size! You always have to be aware of the fat fender, especially when turning tight corners or a fuel pumps. Size! They really do not make "good" daily drivers, but I use mine as a daily driver, back and forth to work, as my company has a gigantic parking lot and the striped sizes are larger than most other places.
So why do we dully drivers put up with these inconveniences? Because, when it comes time to tow, you couldn't ask for anything nicer!
About all these "size" limitations? I've learned to adjust, to plan a little more, and make on-the-spot adjustments to find way to accommodate the larger size vehicle.
At bank ATMs, I park the truck and then walk up to the ATM! OH MY! has everyone forgotten how to use "legs"??? I park in grocery store, business parking lots farther out from the door and "walk". I avoid tight parking spots, and sometimes simply will not use them unless I am in the car. I'm not afraid or so desperate I have to "force" a parking spot for myself. Fuel stations, businesses, have to be maneuvered a little more creative (you learn how very fast and it makes you a better driver in the family car too).
I think when all is said and done, parking is the only real 'challenge' with a dully. But... if you rediscover those two amazing tools so many have forgotten how to use, (your legs), you'll have very little difficulty parking anywhere.
The benefits of a sound, stable, rock steady tow makes up for everything else.
