My '14 Ram 2500 is listed as a 31 gallon tank.
I drove it town to where the Distance To Empty showed 10 miles yesterday (stretching to fill up just once before today's weekend trip). When I filled up, it took just over 26 gallons to fill my "31 gallon" tank.
I assumed it's a reserve to ensure the fuel pump remains submerged, lubricated, and cooled, with the gas gauge calibrated to read empty before that reserve is actually used. I've never felt like pushing it to test my theory.
