dealership would never take a tank to gas station and fill it it, that would be so freaking stupid.
Part number will be on the tank, from that determination can be made as to it's capacity.
Final question then comes back to, what was supposed to be installed on the vehicle.
Month, no updates, I'd bet it was supposed to be built with the smaller tank and the OP doesn't want to come back to updated.
Automotive assembly lines are NOT buckets of parts that line workers pick and choose from. Especially with big parts, they are fed in sequence to build schedule. Do mistakes happen, absolutely, however, they are rare and generally quickly caught, AND REPAIRED.
