I remember the days when DW and I worked full time and we wanted to go far on our vacation. It was not uncommon for us to drive 500-600 miles a day on the interstate. Not the most fun, but we wanted to get to where we were going. Do we do that now, of course not. We are now retired and we do the 300 miles a day thing. However if need be we would do 500 miles again. I say do what you need to do and have a great trip. Don't let us retired folks tell you what you should do. We won't see you in the Outer Banks next summer because we will be in Colorado with our oldest grandson.
Great post. In September took a trip from Central Florida to the Grand Canyon and Moab, UT. Since my wife and I both work, we had time restrictions, so we made it out and back in less than 3 days. First night out, stopped at the LA/TX border, second night stopped upon entering NM. At the Grand Canyon mid day. We had a great time. When we retire, it will be a different story, but as stated above, do what you need to do and have a great time.
