feedback about 2014 spree escape 250s

We are looking to upgrade, and have found one that suits our needs. Does anyone have any comments about the quality of spree escape travel trailers?

Here is a link to one exactly like the one we saw locally. It is listed locally as 21000 Canadian. Is this a decent price...obviously I could negotiate a bit.
Please help me out. Thanks.

  • Mainly positive feedback. So it's a good entry level camper. So that's settled. What about the price? It's a new 2014...It's listed at 21000, what should I aim for? Canadian dollars that is.
  • I have an 09 Spree 261RKS that has been towed tens of thousands of miles. I had 1 warranty issue with a dump valve. Later in life I did have issues with most of the plastic drawer slide support brackets breaking. That is pretty much it on repairs.
  • we have a 2011 Spree 265KS and have been very happy with it. We would highly recommend. We use 8 - 10 times a year and it has held up well.
  • I responded to a similar Spree thread last week - I guess this one is different. I previously owned a KZ Jag, which was the entry level line below the Spree. I had the Jag almost 8 years, and never had any major issues and never needed to use the warranty.
  • That's a great response, thank you. So some minor issues, but nothing too crazy. Roof leafs always worry me though.

A 20 gallon fresh water is tiny though...I wonder if that's a big deal to swap out, or if that's even possible. My current one is 30 gallons, and we usually don't run out, but our family is only getting bigger...hmm
  • I bought a 2011 E14RB new 4 years ago, and sold it last summer because I wanted an A-frame popup. I towed the KZ probably between 12,000 and 14,000 miles in that time. It towed well.

The bad: the window trim pieces kept falling down (the screws just go into thin luan and foam) and the furnace cover screws kept unscrewing themselves. The 5K btu AC was woefully inadequate in temps of 95* and up, but otherwise ok. The roof started leaking on the new owner within 2 weeks of when I sold it, so I went in halfway on a roof re-seal with him because I felt bad about not getting it checked beforehand. Also, I wished it had a bigger fresh water tank.

Otherwise it was a pretty nice little camper. It had good clearance for boondocking. I paid less than $10K new and sold it for $7500. I was reasonably happy with it while I had it; the stuff I mentioned above was mostly little stuff.

Oh, I could mention that the fiberglass gelcoat is plenty tough. I had a sideswipe incident when I had to swerve to avoid some idiot on the freeway; the pickup next to me probably cost $2500 or more to fix the big dents, but the trailer repair was less than $100 (new fresh water fill and fridge vent cover) and some elbow grease to clean off his tire's rub marks.
  • Thank you for your response. So it sounds like a decent quality of travel trailer.

Hopefully others will respond with more feedback.
  • I would have responded sooner, but I have to ask; why can't I post from my iPad? Just get the in high traffic might take a while thing. We have stellar connection here at home!

Anyway, We bought a KZ Spree Escape, 2013 16 BH. It has been flawless, except the air conditioner was bad, had it replaced pronto under warranty and that has nothing to do with KZ. Most owners seem very happy. Ours is one tight little unit, all cupboards stay closed and tight. Plumbing is done nicely, Door hangs right, fit and finish very nice. Great ground clearance. Just check the size of the tanks, some models they smallish, it is a light weight. Inquire about everything and ask for all papers, including whats been done to it if anything. The last post I saw about someone interested in a KZ tow hauler received quite a few posts. Now we just want to take of in it, come on Spring!
