Fifty percent more payload in a F-150

I picked up 2017 F-150 Supercab with the 5.0 Liter engine last month. No tow package, no suspension upgrades. 2,312 pounds of Payload on the yellow sticker which is fifty percent more than most of the other F-150's on the lot which averaged about 1,650 pounds. They must automatically beef up the suspension for the V-8, and I am glad that they did. Too many half tons run out of payload with 800 pounds of people and gear and 900 pound tongue load. I won't. All that for a little over $30k. I know that there are models with even more payload, but they charge more for them.
  • Your F150 has a higher payload number on the sticker than many F250 diesels. Recently went with a friend to look at a lightly used 2017 F250 Lariat diesel and the yellow payload sticker said 1988 lbs! I was surprised how low it was.
  • The thing that sold me was that there was an identical Supercab, with the Eco 2.7 on the lot with a little over 1,600 pounds of payload. When we both load up with 800 pounds of people and stuff, they will have 800 pounds left and I will have almost twice that at 1,500 pounds. Who knows, I may add a topper, a generator, a couple of toolboxes, and some extra water and still be under my GVWR. Maybe that is the only way they can get people to buy the V-8's? That and the sound.
  • Good choice.
Ford markets has several gvwr/rawr packages for the F150. This confuses lots of folks who think all F150 have the same tow/haul ratings. They come up with the F150 3.5 EB engine but with the tiny 6800 gvwr/3800 rawr package and disappointed at the small payload numbers.

The biggie is the 8200-7850 gvwr with 4800 rawr with the 5.0 or 3.5 EB engines.

Next down may be a 7550 gvwr with 4550 rawr with same engines.

And the cows tail 6800 gvwr with tiny 3800 rawr with both engines.
  • While my F150 doesn't have the same payload as yours, I was impressed to find a SuperCrew with 1,800 lbs. I don't have the factory tow package either and I have plenty of payload for my family (four adult size people) and to haul gear and a decent size trailer.

Nice find, not everyone has to have the super huge trucks to get the job done.

    Thanks!

  • Nice find!
Funny, I had a 1993 3/4T Ram/Cummins that had about the same payload!
Trucks have come a long way.
