Here is a link to an explanation of the problem as it relates to gas grills. Our 5th wheel also has a length of hose from each tank to the regulator. The OPD in the tanks "can" trip if opened too fast or as a result of a ruptured hose (or pipe) as is explained in the post. Never heard of a trip device in the nut. The regulator also has an overflow protection circuit built in.
