I know this probably sounds silly but I indtalled photocell for dusk to dawn out side pointin east... connected to a recepticle on the inside as close to the ridge as possible.
I then installed an LED rope light (white) from one end of the carport to the other in the ridge all the way. It furnishes "walk around" light all year for very little money and isn't noticed during the day. It has been working for several years now... cold doesn't effect it.
We never bother with other lights as we are coming and going.
It actually looks good, a little festive.
