Have you given thought to LED shop lights.... 60-100k hours life span, no color shifting, 40% less energy than fluorescent bulbs.... A little more expensive, but worth it.
Yes, but I'm finding the price's to be quite daunting. $275-$300 a fixture is what I've been seeing, even at the low end. Versus about $50 a fixture for a four-bulb, double-row T8 strip light.
T8 fluorescent lamps are pretty impressive compared to T12. T5 are even brighter yet, but kind of costly.
a 4 lamp T8 fixture is pretty decent in price and light output.
I found the same thing about LED shop lights - various versions I looked at were over 200 per fixture. Home Depot has some nice "highbay LED lights" but they were a bit spendy for my budget.
I'm the same as Sleepy - my entire house is LED! For places where the lights aren't on for an extended time period, the cost of LED doesn't make sense, unless of course you have a hatred for incandescent or fluorescent lights.
The shop I recently acquired had only 3 light sockets (porcelain screw in bulb style).
What I decided to do was rewire all the lighting and put in fluorescent fixtures.
