I'm curious (as always)
I see the round vent in the end of the 2X garage... what are your plans for it?
If you are going to eventually heat the garage area ....will you put in a ceiling (or attic floor)... or rig some way to close the vent?
I lived for the first 51 years of my life without central air conditioning in my homes. We/I had a thermostatically controlled 40" X 40" exhaust fan in the attic... we opened and clossed the attic access door to "regulate" how much air was pulled into the house through the windows. The fan itself had shutters that closed when the fan wasn't blowing. We used it 8 months a year here in the south.
In winter the shutters were closed and the attic access door was closed.
It appears that you have plenty of room for a ceiling fan or two above your T Birds or your TC.
The ceilings and walls will eventually be insulated and closed in. I'm leaving them open for now because I know there are going to be some of those "I wish I would have put an outlet/switch here or there" moments. Plus, I still need to get some water over into the garage from the main house. There's a water line in the wall that the upper bay shares with the house, I just need to cut into it and get it up into the garage ceiling. I want a small sink in the upper bay, and several hose bibbs in the walls. If I plan it right and include a shutoff valve in the right place, I'll be able to drain the entire garage water system through the hose bibbs in the winter.
The ceilings will definitely have sheet-rock, but I haven't decided what to use on the walls. My old garage despite all its warts had some nice interior walls. There were built-in pegboard panels on a lot of it, and the rest was either wood siding just like the house exterior, or OSB panels. The boss says she doesn't like OSB, but I'm OK with it. Maybe a less expensive 4x8 wood siding sheet? The siding used on the exterior is about $55-$60 a sheet, so I won't be using that. If anyone has a suggestion, let me know.
The round vent in the garage is just a gable vent for the attic space. The roof has a ridge vent for hot air to rise through, the gable and soffit vents are for air to come in. Of course they're of little use now with no ceiling in the garage. The main house used to have an attic fan installed, but we never used it because it pulled too much dirt and pollen in through the windows. I took it out, and now use the hole it was installed in as an attic access hole. I saved the fan though, and it's sitting on top of the ceiling joists over the RV bay waiting for me to install it.
I also intend to hang ceiling fans in both upper and lower bays. The fan I'm going to use in the lower bay is currently installed in our living room next to the new room over the upper bay. It's an old antique, iron case fan that was salvaged from one of the original hotels downtown. It has three speeds, but rather than the low-medium-high you would expect, it more like breezy-stiff wind-gale force. So, it also never gets used. It will blow papers around in the room even on its lowest speed. It's going to be given a new life in the garage.
On another front, the new living area over the upper bay is still pretty much a blank slate right now, but I will say this: my birthday was last month and I was given a set of Mizerak billiard balls by none other than the boss herself. A pool table may not go in in THIS room, but we now have the space to move the furniture out of another room and make room for one. And a pinball machine. :B
