No, not really. All of my time and effort lately has gone into completing the repair of my truck camper (linky in my post above yours). Now that it's done, I need to start moving all of my junk out of the red barn I built behind the house so the building can be moved down into the back-yard. I built the red barn to facilitate building the new garage, and the boss is after me now to get it away from the house.
My goal for the new living area this summer is to get it insulated, and the ceiling (T&G pine 1x6's) installed, and possibly have the mini-split HVAC unit installed. I'm not ready to close the walls up for good yet, as there's still some wiring I need to do. Getting the ceiling closed up would make the room a lot more comfortable though. It doesn't take much sun on the roof to make the room very hot. Plus, bugs have been finding their way through the ridge vent openings and getting trapped inside. Mostly wasps and flies.
We've been enjoying using both the new garage and living area. The garage was a great place to work on the camper this winter. Even un-insulated and un-heated, it never froze inside the garage. We had temps below freezing for several days this winter, and I never saw a temperature inside the garage lower than 40. The boss has put a few pieces of furniture in the new living area so we can sit and enjoy the views, and just think about unique things to do with the space.
One thing I could use some input on is the floor of the new living area. All that's down right now is the Advantech flooring panels. I haven't decided what type of flooring I'll finish it off with, but I think I'm going to need to take some steps to reduce the drumming noise when it's walked on.
I'm considering doing two things:
1- Add a 1/2" layer of Homasote 440 Soundbarrier on top of the Advantech flooring. Homasote has been around forever, it's one of those products that was green long before green was cool. While I've used some of their other panels before, I've never used the sound barrier. Any type of flooring material can be installed over Homasote. Has anyone here used this product?
2- Have the upper bay garage ceiling insulated with spray-in expanding foam. I'm a little apprehensive about doing that too soon though. Once that stuff is up there, adding anything in the ceiling cavity is going to be tough. There's still some wiring and plumbing that need to be put in the ceiling cavity. But, the way this type of insulation sticks to the backside of the flooring should reduce the noise I would think. Any comments?
One thing I'm anxious to see, and check for periodically is the satellite image of my area. The latest image I can find was taken just after cutting the trees down last February (just prior to starting this topic), and the old flat-roof garage is still there. When it's updated I'll post it up.
Tomorrow is tax day! I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and enjoys the day off from work, the parades and celebrations, and..............wait a minute. Wrong holiday.
