Thanks Cal. That a very nice looking floor. I've admired the cork and bamboo flooring that's available these days myself. I really like the looks of them. We'll have to think carefully about whether cork would work for us in the new living area. We have one cat, but her front paws have been declawed. She does like to tear around the house at times though, and I hear her slipping and scrabbling around on the hardwood flooring we have.
I think I'll take an incremental approach to reducing the floor noise by insulating the garage ceiling first, see how that works, then put down the Homasote panels if more is needed. How it sounds at that point will determine whether we go with a hard or soft flooring material. The flooring will be the last thing to be installed in the new room anyway.
