I have been to Sacremento, but I think it was in April of that year. It was hot then IIRC.
We had cracks like that on tires that were three years old but they were not Maxxis. Can't remember the brand, but they came on the brand new Komfort. We talked to the dealer about it but at that time we didn't know anything really about tires and warranties so we ended up getting all new tires. Had we known then, what we know now, we would've pursued it as a warranty issue.
