Ok, so I have gotten some interesting feedback on this post. Some blame me for Not taking better care of my tires, some blame the fact that I have ST not LT tires. But the common core is,,,,,,,,,I do Not cover my tires in storage.
I wear that like a badge!! I put the PVC gutter cover on my awning to protect it and that has worked wonders, I have plywood wheel covers for my boat,,that works wonders, I spend a couple of hundred bucks for a prime spot on the beach and have to blow it because my tires are rotted!! Took the trailer to the tire shop.. Owner says he will not warranty!!They do NOT cover dry rot on trailer tires! just for that fact!! 3+ year old tires and he lays 100% blame on me.. OK,, I'll own that..I did ask him if I should switch to LT tires, He told me NO He would not mount them on my trailer,, So I say thanks,, thats twice you have told me what you CAN'T do for me and I walked away. Called America's tire and ordered five new Maxxis, Talked to the rep and he is compassionate about my story(I just spent money) and blew smoke up my a== saying they will warranty for the full five years,, He also said he would contact Maxxis about my tires. Stopped at home depot and picked up a 4x8 sheet of plywood to make covers and have 2x8's to park on.. So you folks that are running LT's on a trailer, did the tire store mount them or did you take all five wheels in and have the mount them? Also when you get in a wreck and the investigating agency sees non trailer tires,,,how will you explain that?? I guess no harm no foul,, as long as nothing goes wrong,, but in my state (CA) I can not find a tire store to put LT tires on an ST trailer?? I had to listen to the owner tell me that if I got in a wreck,, CHP and a good lawyer could find them guilty of mounting Light Truck Tires on a Trailer! Hell yeah I would buy twelve ply tires for my trailer,, but I couldn't explain why in a court of law, other than some bloggers suggested it?? Hard fact is,, tires are well under five years old and are failed.. Maxxis or not.. Only good thing is, I caught it before it cost me a bundle.. Take it for what its worth!!
