Finally scored a canoe trailer

I purchased my truck and camper a little over a year ago. I chose a truck camper because I wanted to be able to pull my bass boat. My lovely wife and I are avid fisherman!

The problem was that we also fish out of a canoe in rivers and ponds.
I had no way to haul my canoe. I asked how others did it here on the forum about a year ago. Almost everyone said because of my set up, I would need a trailer.
I decided I wanted a boat trailer that I could convert.

I really didn't want to pay a bunch for one. I searched Craig's List for a year. I was willing to spend $300 to $400. All I found for that price was rusting hulks sitting in grassy fields.

Finally, I spotted this one for $300. I went and looked at it.
It had about 20 rust spots on it but they were all on the welds.
It had real good tires.
I bought it home.

I cleaned the rust off and found that it was just all surface rust. Then repainted everything white.

I decked it with treated 2 X 12's for $150. I used galvanized angle and hardware for the racks. I had that stuff sitting in my yard for about 15 years. Since it was galvanized, it never rusted.
I mounted a tool box that came out of my old truck and a couple of other wooden boxes. My cargo carrier is also bolted down.

I mounted the spare tire from my bass boat on the new trailer.

I also made a step that mounts on the trailer tongue that makes it easier to get in the camper. I use this on both trailers.

So now I can go fishing in skinny water!
I only have $450 in it total.
I'm a happy camper!

Since I took this picture, I traded out the trailer hitch to a higher one.It is much easier to step into the camper now.
