First road trip with the jayco

Hi all, we are preparing to leave in the morning from Austin, TX. For Orlando FL. I've had my bearings serviced and tires inflated to max cold air psi. Aswell as had my hitch set up by the dealer for my new pick up. I'm pulling a 2006 Jayco feather lite 26' with a gvwr of 6000 Ibs with my 2015 Chevy Silverado Dbl Cab V8 with a towing capacity of 9500 Ibs any handy tips or advice would be greatly appreciated

Maybe someone with a 2015 or 2016 Chevy can verify the following:
I was told the 2015 Silverado must be in tow mode or have the lights on in order to charge the TT battery while driving.
Otherwise the 7 way will not be hot to supply power to charge.

I'm guessing that 7-way plug will also be dead when you park , so the truck battery won't die while the TT is hooked up to the truck for extended periods.

I thought it was a little odd and something I didn't know, but there is a thread on it .

Mine charges when connected just like I can use the lights in the camper even the water pump with the truck turned off mines a 15'

  • Thanks so much y'all! I'm only 24 and embraced the camper life from my first pop up! I really Appreciate the advice of more experienced than myself
  • Watch out for a rough stretch of I 10 about 50 miles into Louisiana. It's a very long bridge over water.
I had to slow down to 50 mph to eliminate the very rough ride. I also, turned on the 4 way flashers for the duration.
    Same thing coming back.....
    Safe travels!

  • #1 Enjoy your trip.

    otherwise
Take it slow and enjoy the drive.
Keep at least 1/3 tank of fresh water so you can use the bathroom if needed.
take pictures and post them here. :)
I always do a walk around before driving away after any stop where you leave the rig unattended. Make sure the tires look good and check to make sure the hitch up still looks good and nobody pulled your hitch pin or emergency breakaway cable while you were away from the vehicle.
