Might be time to consider a small mini-split A/C to cool at least one room in the house.
I have added five (so far) air units to the central furnace system in my rentals. They work fine however a lot of energy is used in rooms that do not need so much cooling. My home has two units, one for up and one for downstairs. Much better.
My next home I expect to have mini-split units to control the temperature room by room. They do not seem to be that expensive when compared at the same SEER and BTU rating.
