Wayne & Tin-Bender,
Regarding the situation where the truck rear is pointing down and so is the tongue of the trailer, I think swiveling on the ball (as Tin-Bender suggested) may explain it for the PP; however, I have the Hensley and I believe the struts are going to prevent swiveling on the ball. I can't explain it for the Hensley other than maybe the struts prevent such a situation. That is, the entire assembly will always be in the same plane.
Or maybe there is enough play between the upper and lower head assemblies.
Maybe someone else has something to add.
There is more than enough adjustability in the Hensley to be able to match up the TT and TV, I have hooked up the HA on some pretty extreme grades and have not had any problems. It's really a very simple process adjust the angle, adjust the height with the tongue jack and hook 'er up.
Both of these hitches are based on the same design, they were both developed by Jim Hensley. The PP is a reworked HA.
This side discussion was not about hitching up, but rather what happens to a connected system when driving over terrain that puts an extreme angle between the TV and TT. As a Hensley owner, I don't think this presents a problem. I was just looking for an explanation as to how the system handles the angle.
